You can sign up for a monthly newsletter about the GI Way here if you haven't done so already. I've had the link over on the sidebar for a few weeks now.
The most recent letter hit my mailbox tonight, and it is so chock full of good advice, interesting recipes, and an inspirational story that I want to draw your attention to it.
If there's any diabetes in your family, be sure to have a look.

I added the side to my Bloglines feed.
Also, I read turnips can be a suitable substitute for potatoes -- they taste similarly with a slight carroty taste but are better for you. Have you heard this?
(Word verification is soybs!)
In Rick Gallop's simplified Red/ Yellow/ Green GI chart, both potatoes and turnips garner a Red rating (don't go there). Looking both up at the Glycemic Index page (addy on sidebar), I find different kinds of potatoes ranging anywhere from mid-40 GIs to over 100. Turnips weren't on the list, but a rutabaga scores a 72.
So...I guess enjoy turnips occasionally but don't depend on them as part of a weight loss regime. (Parnsips and broad beans are the only other vegetables in the Red category!)
Nope. That doesn't sound like a good substitute. Thanks for the details.
